Courses at Elmhurst College for APHG Teachers

More than 96,000 students took the AP Human Geography exam in 2012 and it is estimated that there are 3,200 AP Human Geography teachers nationwide. As more students take the APHG exam, the demand for qualified teachers will increase.

Designed specifically for secondary educators, the APHG graduate certificate program focuses on teaching spatial concepts as well as basic themes, skills and perspectives of APHG and how to apply them in the classroom.

In small, cohort-based classes, you’ll work with experienced educators and professionals—and receive your certificate in less than a year. The program is offered entirely online through the Elmhurst College Online Center, providing the convenience teachers want—and need.

A new scholarship has been made available good for $600 per course in the new, entirely online Graduate Certificate Program for Teaching AP Human Geography, geared specifically for APHG instructors. It is specifically for public school teachers who are members of the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE). The NCGE has graciously sponsored this program to make sure public school teachers would be able to get the professional development they needed to teach AP Human Geography.

No more having to leave your family for expensive 4- or 5-day workshops and paying for lodging and airfare. This graduate program is entirely online and links you directly with other APHG instructors and your State Geographical Alliances. It is about your learning on how to improve the scores of your students on the AP Exam. It is about your convenience and it is about time that you look into this "first-of-its-kind" opportunity. There are five (5) courses available in the program and each eight-week online course costs about the same as a 4- or 5-day workshop! If you are a public school teacher who is a member of the National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE), you will receive a $600 scholarship on your tuition, sponsored by NCGE.

The price of tuition for public school teachers who are members of the NCGE is now only $1350 per eight-week course.
